Notes & sources
How the list is made
Every place is cross-referenced against Yelp, Google, The New York Times, OpenTable, Resy, The Infatuation, Eater, Time Out and the Michelin Guide, then argued down to the best of the best — must-visit, unique, a rockstar in its own right. Each list runs to at least fifty places; restaurants and bars to well over a hundred. First compiled four years ago and rebuilt for Fall/Winter 2026.
What the marks mean
Michelin marks reflect the 2025 New York selection, announced November 2025 — the most recent at time of publishing. Only stars and Bib Gourmands are shown; Michelin "recommended" listings are not. Bar rankings are from North America's 50 Best Bars 2026 (April 2026). Restaurant rankings are from The New York Times' "100 Best Restaurants in New York City, 2026" (May 2026).
Booking and the Amex Resy credit
Each place carries a booking platform — Resy, Tock, OpenTable, SevenRooms or Walk-in — as best known at time of publishing. Platforms change; the app is the source of truth.
Amex ✓ marks places where the American Express Resy dining credit should apply: the Platinum Card earns up to $100 back each quarter and the Gold Card up to $50 twice a year at U.S. Resy restaurants, paid with an enrolled card — no booking through Resy required. Since August 1, 2026, eligible venues carry a "Resy Credit eligible" badge in the Resy app, and Tock venues join the credit from September 15, 2026 as Tock folds into Resy. Check the badge before you commit a credit.
Occasions and James Beard
Occasion chips — Romantic, Date night, Casual, Group / lively, Brunch & daytime, Late night, Coffee & sweets — come from the companion Honestly Speaking — New York Guide by Occasion (Fall/Winter 2026), which sorts the guide's open venues by how you'd use them. James Beard marks are the 2026 nominations for New York: Corima, Meju, Shukette, Claud and Carnitas Ramírez for Best Chef; The Four Horsemen for Outstanding Restaurant; Lei for Best New Restaurant; Clemente Bar for Best New Bar; Ramen by Rā (Emerging Chef); Chambers (wine); Borgo and Whoopsie Daisy for beverage and cocktail service.
Honestly Speaking
These guides are published under Honestly Speaking, which is also an independent, unsponsored restaurant review site — the full reviews, with the plate-first criticism the city lists don't have room for, are at honestlyspeaking.xyz.

Verify before you go
Anything marked verify is a place whose current status couldn't be confirmed for this edition, or that has been reported closed, relocated or renamed. A quick check on Resy or Google before planning an evening around it is worth the thirty seconds.
